TYSONS, Va. — LMI’s SHEPRD™, a platform that helps Soldiers anticipate threats, protect critical assets, and make faster decisions across the battlespace, is now being deployed across I Corps through the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) architecture. With SHEPRD already built by LMI and prototyped through Army exercises, the Army is able to rapidly scale the capability across I Corps. The deployment demonstrates the success of bringing commercial-first capabilities for iteration with Soldiers in the field.
SHEPRD provides Army protection cells with a shared, real-time operating picture that brings together threat data, asset locations, terrain, routes, and protection coverage into a single C2 view of the battlespace. Deployment to I Corps extends the capability across the Army’s operational headquarters for the Pacific, which also works closely with joint and allied partners throughout the theater.
SHEPRD was developed by LMI as a commercial application for the Army’s NGC2 ecosystem and was evaluated by Soldiers during the Army’s Ivy Sting and Project Convergence-Capstone 6 exercises. Working alongside protection cells in the field, LMI’s forward-deployed engineers refined the platform based on how Soldiers actually used it in operational scenarios. That combination of upfront investment, operational testing, and rapid iteration meant the Army was able to get technology into warfighters’ hands faster.
“Being able to scale at mission speed means ensuring you’re delivering what Soldiers actually need,” said Jared Summers, LMI CTO. “Working directly with Soldiers and pushing meaningful updates in 24 hours, not months, made SHEPRD better with every exercise.”
“The Department of War is asking industry to show up differently to get the best technology into warfighters’ hands faster,” said LMI President of National Security Graham Evans. “For LMI, that means using our mission expertise to anticipate operational gaps and invest ahead of demand. With SHEPRD, this approach helped create a working capability that was ready when the Army needed it and able to scale across I Corps.”
